The NEEDL Studentship comes with additional benefits and support of having a co-supervisor at another institution.

NEEDL students will be offered some compulsory and some optional training and development opportunities. Students are fully funded for four years of study. So the expectation is supervisors must support and encourage students to engage in activities such as the PIPS internships and computational training.

Yes, NEEDL students can apply for funding to support training and they will be provided with a bursary in order to complete a PIPS.

NEEDL Studentships are match funded (50% from BBSRC and 50% by the institution) therefore it is the responsibility of the supervisor proposing the project to discuss this with their Director of Institute/Executive Dean/Head of School/Department to confirm that they will be responsible for the remaining funding prior to submission of the application.(this will be confirmed with Director of Institute/Executive Dean/Head of School/Department BEFORE awarding, as evidence of the confirmation may be requested)

Projects are scored by a panel of assessors at each institution and are awarded on both quality of the project and on broadening opportunities for staff and students.
